There are very few property deals in estate agents' windows or on Rightmove and Zoopla, but that is where retail investors and amateurs acquire property.

Wholesale investors, predominantly professionals, buy distressed assets at property auctions, genuine off-market properties, and through receivers and administrators. The price difference can be up to 50%.

The numbers are significant, and once you have invested wholesale, you will not go back to overpaying in the retail market.

Distressed Assets can help you.

Property Auction Expert, Author & Mentor

Dominic Farrell is the author of the UK’s No.1 bestselling book about property auctions, "Property Auctions: Repossessions, Bankruptcies and Bargain Properties: The Expert's Guide To Success In All Market Conditions" now in its 4th edition published 7th March 2026. It’s also available in Audiobook and Kindle.

He also hosts The Property Auctions Podcast and has been a regular expert speaker and panelist at the Property Investor Show in London for over 20 years.

Dominic was born and bred in Liverpool and attended the Salesian High School, then the University of Bradford, where he read a BSc (Hons) in Economics. After graduation, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned into the King’s Regiment.

He served worldwide, completed an MBA (Defence) at Cranfield University and was decorated by HM Queen Elizabeth II in the Operational Honours List 2001 for outstanding service on operations.

Dominic, in his so-called “spare time,” also served as the military script advisor for the highly successful ITV series Soldier Soldier, frequently reminding Army colleagues that it was a drama, not a documentary!

He retired as a Major to pursue property development full-time, having built a portfolio of buy-to-let properties while still serving in the Army.

Dominic quickly established himself as a property developer in Cyprus in the run-up to European Union accession. This was a huge success until the Credit Crunch and financial crisis of 2008 and its aftermath. For many developers worldwide, the market collapsed.

This period was also an opportunity, and Dominic quickly established Distressed Assets to seize opportunities brought about by the crisis, some examples of which are shown in his book.He has been an active developer and investor for decades, but for the past 18 years, he has focused almost exclusively on distressed assets at property auctions, where he feels the real value is to be found.

Dominic and his team also run property auction courses in London and live online for those investors who wish to find exceptional below-market value properties at auction, off-market or through receivers and administrators.

Dominic also coaches and mentors people through his 12-month Property Auction Professional Mentorship programme, supported by a solicitor, and specialist bridging and mortgage broker, to successfully navigate property auctions and works with them as a group, but also on a 1:1 basis.

He lives in Liverpool and is happily married with three children, two dogs and two cats.
